Lesson Plan - Reflection

 The process in creating my lesson plan was much more difficult than I thought it would be. It was so much more extensive than putting together a collection of videos or texts to respond to. I found myself struggling in properly writing out the sample, however I felt particularly confident in formulating a script that could be easily understood by a high schooler. I also found it difficult to navigate the lesson plan requirements on the website, I think I'm still a little confused if I had to be honest. I hope that my next lesson plan will hit the mark a little better, but in the meantime I gave it all I could!

    Hi Luna! I'm sorry to say that I can't see your lesson plan as that link takes me to the outline. Going off what you said, I totally understand how difficult it was to write a script. At first I was confused and it took me awhile to start putting words on the doc and making a lesson happen!! I know how some teachers feel now lol!

    Student: The assignment sounds like a fun opportunity to describe my opinion on an issue that is relevant to me. The directions are easy to follow and ask me to continue supporting an already existing argument, so it doesn't feel as daunting to follow. The importance of MLA formatting and quoting are pretty clear to me. I also really appreciate that we are thoroughly walked through how to find credible sources.

    Colleague: Hi Luna, your lesson plan is great! I like how your assignment is building off another argument. Your script was fantastic! It started off engaging the students with an important and relevant topic. The questions asked throughout the script are good prompt-starters that will have the students reflecting. I also love that you explain how to use MLA and find credible sources. The only thing I think can be clarified is the last sentence of your second paragraph when you say, "Try your best to use academic sources" because it should be "Make sure to use academic sources" since this is what you were explaining in the sentences before.

Harder than it looks!

Giving feedback and grading is so much harder than it looks! I found myself trying to be as positive and forgiving with the writing as possible as I tried to take into account the ages of my students. I also found myself struggling to give cohesive criticism, it's so easy to have something to say in your head but being able to say it out loud and allow a student to learn from their mistakes is very difficult. I also found it very tedious to compare every aspect of the writing to what the rubric was asking for. For example, while student #3 was lacking flow and analysis, student #2 had a thorough and easy to understand thesis. As for grading, all essays felt like B's across the board. This is absolutely something I need to further improve on through practice and patience with myself. I find it extremely difficult to be detailed because it feels mean-spirited.
